Ben Stein on meetings
I just finally got around to looking at this clip of Ben Stein talking about meetings on CBS last week. He’s dead-on about the ripples of layoffs that go out from meeting cancellations and cutbacks.

We truly need more people like Ben Stein to speak out in defense of the Meeting & Events industry. Our industry is capable of adding so much significance to our economic recovery that it is a shame the general public is unaware or misinformed as to the importance, especially during down economic cycles, for companies to rally together and forge learning and performance improvement plans. If corporations remain hesitant to host internal and external meetings and events they will only delay their own recovery and slow the revival of the overall economy.

I definitely agree, both regarding the accuracy of Stein’s comments about the ripple effect and the fact that companies need to realize now more than ever that meetings are what will get them back on track.
But is it just me that thinks it’s not necessarily Obama that needs persuading (as Stein primarily references his comments) but these corporations themselves? We’ve fought back against the govt, the media, I just think we need to get at the people who are actually making the decision to book/attend meetings and events.
