Westin gets a soundtrack
First comes the white tea scent, now bring on the soundtrack: Westin Hotels and eMusic, a digital music retailer, have partnered up to develop a signature sound for Westin properties, according to a press release.
- As part of the partnership eMusic.com will develop an innovative digital music offering that will be featured across Westin’s 124 hotels and resorts around the world. Westin’s signature music program will be incorporated into various aspects of the guest experience, including the lobby environment and in-room entertainment and will be part of Westin’s new Sensory Welcome program that will debut brand-wide later this year.
Not to be contrary, but I sure do hope it comes with an off switch. I get enough sensory overload at meetings to begin with.

Hey, I’m just happy to have a multi-song soundtrack that is digitally updated now and then. Were you doing the meeting thing in the 90’s when every hotel lobby in the world was playing Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” because they had all read some study that said it was psychologically beneficial? I used to like that piece. But as a tour guide overexposed to it again and again during that period, I developed a nervous twitch and a desire to run screaming outdoors every time I heard it.
I’m with you… an off switch is my preferred mood setting satisfaction device. And while you’re at it, don’t decide for me what the lighting levels should be (Gaylord resort properties… listen up!), what the smells should be, and in general stay the heck away from mandating my sensory inputs!
