10 commandments for speakers
This is great–The TED Commandments (scroll down to the Feb. 20 entry to see what I’m talking about). This is how the TED Conference sent its speakers guidelines. Did I mention that this is great?
1. Thou shalt not trot out thy usual schtick.
2. Thou shalt dream a great dream, or show forth a wonderous new thing, or share something thou hast never shared before.
and so on. Though #7 made me laugh out loud: “Thou shalt not sell from the stage neither thy company, thy goods, thy writings, nor thy desperate need for funding, lest thou be cast aside into outer darkness.”
And TED organizers sent these commandments to speakers on a stone tablet. Amazing.

Tried to trace this back to get the whole list of the Ted Commandments but can’t find it. Sounds very funny - will appreciate it if someone could send them to me. ian@ianpercy.com Many thanks - TED on!

Ian,
I, too, am interested in reading the rest of the Ted. Com & asked for them on the TED blog. By the way, the TED meeting format culd inspire other meeting planners in creating their conference experience… and keep an eye out for one of my heroes who won one of the the TED prizes this year, Larry Brilliant (with fans as diverse as Buffett and Obama), the new/first head of google’s foundation - a real believer in living aa big story and getting others to tell theirs as a way of getting them involved in his causes

Promptly responding to my inquiry:
“June Cohen here. I’m the editor of the TEDBlog … As for the TED Commandments, they are sent out to speakers in advance of the conference, but we don’t publish them publicly.”
So Sue, where did you get them?.

I saw them at http://shopliftwindchimes.com/blogframe.html (scroll down to the Feb. 20 entry). They should publish them publicly—best speaker guidelines I’ve ever seen, bar none.
