When is a general session not a general session?
Ben at the Certified Association Executive wants to retire some tired old meetings terms and replace them with new ones. His suggestions:

Panel Discussion >> Debate
Roundtable >> BrainJam
Convention >> Congress
Symposium >> Summit
Lecture >> Download
Webinar >> Podcast
Seminar >> Clinic
eLearning >> Just bury it
But if we don’t change what they mean, it doesn’t matter what we call them. A general session will still be a general session, even if you call it a brain dump. Though I have to say, download is an excellent term for a lecture, and if panel discussions truly were debates, they’d be 100 percent more interesting.
