Just for fun: Birthday calculator

This didn’t do too much for me, but others rave about the Birthday Calculator, especially the part that tells you what your name means about you. Mine didn’t align too well with who I am, but I hear others really grooved on it (yes, I am old enough to say “grooved” with a straight face).

ASAE is going to blog its conference again

I really liked last year’s ASAE’s 2004 Conference blog, even though I only heard about it after the fact last year. Now I’m primed and ready, having heard from Jeff De Cagna that the American Society of Association Executives will be blogging away again at this year’s show in Nashville, which I unfortunately am going to have to miss again this year.

Jeff says it’s launching Monday, and it’s on my list of things to check out first thing. Thanks on behalf of all of us who won’t be able to be there in person–don’t forget to post lots of pictures!

Join the GlobalPaintfest

A teambuilding activity that more companies are starting to get hip to is facilitated by the Foundation for Hospital Art. The foundation prepares a canvas, provides paints, and guides attendees, who, divided into teams, create a painting. The paintings then are donated to hospitals to cheer up patients and stressed-out healthcare workers. I hear it’s a great activity that generates good PR and makes staffers feel good.

Now the Foundation has kicked off what it calls Global PaintFest 2005, a 36-city painting event that kicked off in Washington, D.C. in May. From the press release:

The global painting event, including a climb up Mt. Fuji with cancer survivors (MLT – Meaningful Life Therapy members) to symbolize hope and to encourage cancer patients to go for quality of life during their fight to beat cancer, will conclude on October 14, 2005. The final painting will come together at the Roosevelt Rehab Institute in Warm Springs, GA during the Foundation for Hospital Art’s annual board meeting.

A PaintFest will be conducted at the Roosevelt Rehab Institute to celebrate the completion of the 2005 global mission. The completed painting will be dedicated to a cancer hospital at the base of Mt. Fuji, one of the many hospitals participating in the global event.

Shown above (click to enlarge) is the design with only 10 of the planned 36 panels that will be in the final painting. If your company, organization, or community wants to get involved, call John Feight at (770) 645-1717 or drop him an e-mail.

I’d cave in on this hotel

137aWhen a MIMlister asked for something interesting to see on the Pacific Coast Highway, someone recommended Caveman Room at the Madonna Inn. So of course I clicked over to check it out—oh my! (Click on photo to enlarge). Even a waterfall in the bathroom. Next time I’m out that way, I’ll put checking this spot out on my to-do list for the pure novelty of it.

Fryday fun

Nope, not a typo for a change–at 95 F and so humid you could squeeze a handful of air and get a cupfull, I am truly frying today.

So, in the interest of fried brains, here’s today’s timewaster ( though you do need flash to play it): Bob’s Cube Poke around the Cube–lots of surprises. Including the Shirk Your Work game, but you have to find it!

Thanks to Cathy Chatfield-Taylor for the link!
