Sorry guys, this one’s just for women

I just heard about a Web site called SelfEmployedWoman.com that sounds like it could be a great resource for the female independents and other women small business owners in our midst. I haven’t had a chance to do more than kick the tires on this one, but according to the press release:

It helps to share ideas with other women and ask for help and support when the challenges of business and personal life come up. You won’t find recipe-swapping or ideas for fixing your relationship on this site. We’re all about getting down to business: how to find time to do all you want to do and how to make your dreams a reality.

Before I came to work for this fine company, I was a contractor for many, many years. Something like this would have been invaluable–if it’s all the press release cracks it up to be.

Checklist for responding to a bad RFP

The RFP from Hell offers a checklist for third-party planners, DMCs, and anyone else who’s frustrated by requests for proposal that are, as the writer says, “about as useful as a deck of Tarot cards when it comes to providing solid information on which to build a new business pitch.” And planners, if yours is one of them, this also might make for some good reading.

What do Las Vegas, Toronto, and New York have in common?

According to this article on CBS MarketWatch, they’re the most popular meetings and convention cities for everything from board meetings to citywides. Las Vegas has 203 events on the books for this year, Toronto 154, and NYC has 134.

Though New York better watch its rates. Vegas has a bunch of relatively inexpensive hotels and capacity up the wazoo (whatever a wazoo may be), and Toronto has a cheap dollar and even cheaper flights these days. But New York, well, it’s known for many things, but affordability usually isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. But for high-end or East Coast-centric events, my money’s still on the Big Apple. And Chicago, #4 with 110 conventions, is nipping at its heels.

Rounding out the top 10 list are Orlando, Dallas, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and San Diego.

Diamonds are a hotel’s best friend…

Especially when they’re the prestigious AAA Five Diamond kind. Congratulations to the five new hotels added to the list for 2005: The Phoenician, Walden Country Inn & Stables, Grand America Hotel, Paraiso de la Bonita Resort and Thalasso, and The Ritz-Carlton, Georgetown.

For a complete list of all 142 AAA Five Diamond winners, click here.

And congratulations also to the Hotel Triton and The Stanford Terrace Inn, winners of the Leadership Level hotels in Northern California which were recently recognized by the state’s new Green Lodging Program.

Now that’s motivational

I couldn’t believe it when I found out that the 56-year-old woman who just gave birth to twins was a motivational speaker.

Guess she must have talked herself into it, eh?
