Arizona getting collateral boost from Florida hurricanes?

That’s what this article in USA Today says, anyway.

Meeting planners and vacationers increasingly have been booking and making inquiries about Arizona in the wake of destructive hurricanes that have pummeled Florida.

As one hotel spokesperson pointed out, “Arizona has everything that Florida has to offer, except the ocean.” And, of course, hurricanes. Some are predicting just a short-term shift, others that it may last a couple of years before Florida recovers its full fall meeting potential.

Now that’s dedication

In this article in News-Press.com about meeting and event planners in Florida, meeting and special event planner Lisa Reece of Extraordinary Eventz kept on ticking as her area took a licking from the late-summer hurricane. Of an event she was handling at the time, the article says:

It was an especially nerve-wracking time to be having a party because that was during the period when hurricanes were marching through the state, [her client] said. “Half of Lisa’s house got blown away from the hurricane (Charley) and she still came through.”

From the perspective of someone who would have high-tailed it out of town at the first raindrop, all I can say is, you guys simply amaze me.

Hotel with a heart

According to a press release, Handlery Union Square Hotel in San Francisco has its heart in the right place: It gives back to nonprofit organizations with free meeting room space and donates 10 percent of its guestroom sales to nonprofit groups that stay at the hotel.
